Spay and Neuter

Plan for the unplanned. Spay and neuter your pets at one of Vancouver’s top Animal Hospitals.

Cypress St. Animal Hospital offers spaying and neutering for cats, dogs, and rabbits. Spaying and neutering will prevent your pet from reproducing. Spaying refers to fixing a female and neutering to fixing a male. Our staff will handle your pet with care and use every safety measure possible. We know you are trusting us with a member of your family.

Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus in a female pet and neutering is the removal of the testicles in a male pet. The operation sounds drastic, but it is safe, effective, and quick. Both surgeries are done under general anesthesia in a sanitized environment. We use the safest pre-anesthetic medication Alfaxan, and the safest anesthetic gas Isoflurane. Throughout the procedure, your pet’s heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration rate are closely watched by a certified animal health technician and licensed veterinarian. We take every precaution and step possible for the comfort of your pet.

Spaying or neutering lessens the growing number of animals who are without loving and caring homes, and risk being put down. It provides your pet with a longer, happier and healthier life. If you have multiple pets, spaying or neutering will ensure a pleasant, peaceful home. It will make sure that there are no unexpected surprises.

Your pet should be spayed or neutered before it reaches sexual maturity. The procedure can be performed as early as 8 weeks of age on dogs and cats. Rabbits should be fixed between 4-6 months of age. Early spaying and neutering greatly improves the long-term health of your pet.

“I brought in my 6-week old kitten for her first check up and vaccinations a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The staff were friendly. All of my concerns were addressed and all my questions were answered in depth. The prices were very reasonable.”

“I’m so glad that this is our neighbourhood vet! Our cat disappeared and was found with a broken leg. We took him here and the surgery was arranged. The staff and doctors are all very friendly and kind. We’ve even had calls at home to check and see how he’s recovering.”
